Terms of Service
These Terms of Service govern your use of HonestyBox.uk, a project of Colletta & Co., a doing-business-as (DBA) name of One Eye Open LLC ("we", "us", "our"). All commercial and legal activity on this site flows through the parent entity, One Eye Open LLC, whose canonical terms are published at oneeyeopen.com/terms.html. The document below adds HonestyBox.uk-specific rules (waitlist, listings, user-generated content, ownership claims, and UK-consumer-specific terms such as governing law) on top of those canonical terms. For any matter not expressly addressed below, the One Eye Open LLC terms at oneeyeopen.com apply.
Two front doors, one service. HonestyBox.scot and HonestyBox.uk are two domains for the same service operated by Colletta & Co. Listings, accounts, photos and data are shared across both. You can sign up or sign in on whichever site you prefer; correspondence to either reaches us — write to [email protected] or [email protected].
By using this website or the HonestyBox.uk platform, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our service. For questions, email [email protected].
1. What HonestyBox.uk is
HonestyBox.uk is a community-maintained map of honesty boxes across the UK. An honesty box is a self-serve roadside stall - often by a farm gate or village lane - where people buy goods like fresh produce, baked goods, and crafts on a trust basis.
The site is currently in preview, accepting waitlist sign-ups only. The full platform - where anyone can search, add, and update listings - will launch in due course. These terms apply to both the current site and the full platform when it launches.
2. Accepting these terms
By accessing honestybox.uk, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old and that you accept these terms. If you are using the service on behalf of a business, you confirm you have the authority to bind that business to these terms.
3. Creating an account
When the platform launches, you will be able to create an account using an email address. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that takes place under your account. You must not share your account or use someone else's.
We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms. If we close your account for serious or repeated breaches, we may prevent you from re-registering.
4. Contributing to the map
The HonestyBox.uk map is built on contributions from people who have visited, run, or found honesty boxes. When you contribute content - including listings, photos, updates, and edits - you agree to the following:
Accuracy
Only submit listings that are real and that you have reasonable grounds to believe are accurate. Submitting fake, misleading, or duplicate listings undermines the platform for everyone and may result in your account being suspended.
Photos
Only upload photos that you took yourself, or that you have the right to share publicly. Do not upload images that contain identifiable people without their consent, or that infringe anyone's copyright.
By uploading a photo, you grant One Eye Open LLC a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual licence to store, display, and distribute the photo for the purposes of operating and promoting HonestyBox.uk. You retain ownership of your photo. You can request its removal at any time by contacting us - we will remove it unless it has become part of an archived record that we are required to retain.
Keeping listings current
If you are the owner of an honesty box and you have claimed its listing, you are responsible for keeping the details accurate. Please update the listing promptly if the box moves, closes, or changes its stock or hours.
No automated bulk submission
Do not scrape, bulk-import, or programmatically submit listings without our prior written permission.
5. Listing accuracy
We cannot verify the accuracy of every listing. Listings are submitted by members of the public and may be wrong, out of date, or misleading. We display community-reported issues clearly, but you visit any honesty box at your own discretion.
We are not responsible for wasted journeys, incorrect information, or your experience at any honesty box. We are not a party to any transaction between you and a box operator.
6. New account and submission limits
To protect the map from spam and abuse:
- New accounts may not create listings for the first 30 days after registration.
- A 30-day creation pause applies if any of your listings are reported and confirmed as invalid by a moderator.
- Accounts that repeatedly submit bad listings may have creation privileges suspended permanently.
- There are rate limits on how many listings you can submit per day and per week.
These limits may be adjusted as the platform matures.
7. Ownership claims
If you operate an honesty box, you can claim its listing to manage it directly. To claim a listing, you will be asked to verify that you are the operator - for example, by submitting a photo of the box with a one-time verification code.
Ownership claims are reviewed by our moderation team. We reserve the right to reject claims that cannot be verified.
Disputed claims
If someone challenges your ownership claim, we will review the evidence from both parties and make a decision. We aim to make decisions fairly and consistently. If we get it wrong, you can ask us to reconsider by emailing [email protected].
We may revoke a claim if the associated account breaches these terms or if the claim was made dishonestly.
8. Reports and moderation
Any user can report a listing they believe is inaccurate, misleading, or in breach of these terms. Reports are handled as follows:
- 1 open report - a "Pending review" notice appears on the listing.
- 3 reports from 3 different users - the listing is automatically hidden from the map pending moderator review.
We aim to review reports promptly, but we cannot guarantee a specific response time. Moderation decisions are made in good faith. If you believe a decision about your listing is wrong, contact us at [email protected].
We reserve the right to remove any content that we reasonably believe breaches these terms, without prior notice in serious cases.
9. Things you must not do
You must not use HonestyBox.uk to:
- Submit false, misleading, or defamatory content about any honesty box, its owner, or any person.
- Impersonate a box owner or claim a listing you do not operate.
- Harass, target, or intimidate any individual.
- Upload content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, or otherwise interfere with the platform's operation.
- Create accounts or listings to manipulate vote scores or report counts.
- Use the platform for any unlawful purpose.
Breaching these rules may result in content removal, account suspension, or both.
10. Our content and intellectual property
The HonestyBox.scot and HonestyBox.uk brands, design, written content, and platform code are owned by One Eye Open LLC. You may not copy, reproduce, or use them without our permission, except as permitted by law.
If we open-source any part of the platform in future, that code will be governed by a separate licence stated in the relevant repository.
11. Map data and attribution
Map tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap contributors and are licensed under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). We are grateful to the OpenStreetMap community.
Listing data contributed to HonestyBox.uk - location, name, and factual details - is made available under the ODbL unless you indicate otherwise. This means the database of listing information may be used, shared, and built upon by others, provided they give appropriate credit and keep any derivative database open.
If you do not want your contributions to be available under an open data licence, please do not contribute listing data to the platform.
Photos are not subject to the ODbL; your licence grant for photos is described in section 4 above.
12. Disclaimers
HonestyBox.uk is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. In particular, we do not warrant that:
- Any listing is accurate, complete, or current.
- Any honesty box will be open, stocked, or operating when you visit.
- Any box is operated safely or in compliance with food safety or other regulations.
- The platform will be available at all times or free from errors.
These disclaimers do not affect any rights you have as a consumer under UK law.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, One Eye Open LLC will not be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss or damage arising from your use of HonestyBox.uk, including (without limitation) loss of data, wasted travel, or any transaction with an honesty box operator.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the platform will not exceed £50 (fifty pounds sterling).
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
14. Your rights as a UK consumer
If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom, you have statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other legislation that these terms do not affect. Nothing here is intended to limit those rights.
15. Ending your relationship with us
You can stop using HonestyBox.uk at any time. If the full platform is live, you can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing [email protected]. We will action this within one calendar month.
Note: listing data contributed under the ODbL may remain in the database even after account deletion, as it forms part of the open dataset. Photos will be removed on request.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, with or without notice depending on the severity of the breach.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do. For significant changes that materially affect your rights, we will notify registered users by email with reasonable notice before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the platform after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland (Colletta & Co.'s home jurisdiction; the same governing law applies whether you accessed the service via HonestyBox.scot or HonestyBox.uk). Any disputes arising from or connected to these terms or your use of the service are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
If you are a UK consumer, you retain the benefit of any mandatory protections provided by UK consumer law regardless of this clause.
Before raising a formal dispute, please contact us at [email protected] - most issues can be resolved quickly by talking directly.
18. How to contact us
For questions about these terms, to report a concern, or to contact us about your account or data:
- Email: [email protected] (or [email protected] — both reach the same team)
