Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of HonestyBox.uk, operated by Colletta & Co., a doing-business-as name of One Eye Open LLC ("we", "us", "our"). The canonical company terms at oneeyeopen.com/terms.html apply to anything not addressed below.

HonestyBox.scot and HonestyBox.uk are two front doors for the same service. One account, one dataset; sign in via whichever you prefer. Contact via either inbox reaches the same team.

By using HonestyBox.uk you agree to these terms. Questions: get in touch.

1. What HonestyBox.uk is

HonestyBox.uk is a community-maintained map of honesty boxes across the UK — self-serve roadside stalls where people buy goods on a trust basis.

2. Accepting these terms

By accessing honestybox.uk you confirm you are at least 13 years old. If you are using the service on behalf of a business, you confirm you have the authority to bind that business to these terms.

3. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Don't share your account or use someone else's. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms; for serious or repeated breaches we may prevent re-registration.

4. Contributing to the map

The map is built on contributions. When you contribute — listings, photos, edits — you agree to the following:

Accuracy

Only submit listings that are real and that you have reasonable grounds to believe are accurate. Fake, misleading, or duplicate listings undermine the platform and may result in your account being suspended.

Photos

Only upload photos you took yourself, or that you have the right to share publicly. Do not upload images that identify people without their consent, or that infringe anyone's copyright.

By uploading a photo you grant One Eye Open LLC a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual licence to store, display, and distribute it for the purposes of operating and promoting HonestyBox.uk. You retain ownership. You can request removal at any time by contacting us; we will remove it unless it has become part of an archived record we are required to retain.

Images served through HonestyBox.uk are screened for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) using Cloudflare's CSAM Scanning Tool. Any confirmed match is removed and reported to the appropriate authorities (such as the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children), and the account responsible may be disabled and referred to law enforcement.

Keeping listings current

If you've claimed ownership of a box, please keep its details up to date — move, closure, change of stock or hours.

No automated bulk submission

Don't scrape, bulk-import, or programmatically submit listings without our prior written permission.

5. Listing accuracy

We cannot verify every listing. Listings are submitted by members of the public and may be wrong, out of date, or misleading. We display community-reported issues clearly, but you visit any honesty box at your own discretion. We are not responsible for wasted journeys or your experience at any box, and we are not a party to any transaction between you and a box operator.

6. Submission limits

To protect the map from spam and abuse:

• Per-account rate limits cap how many listings you can submit per day and per week.
• If listings you submit are reviewed and confirmed as invalid by a moderator, your account accrues "bad listing" strikes. Repeated strikes can disable your account.

Limits may be adjusted as the platform matures.

7. Ownership claims

If you operate a box you can claim its listing to manage it directly. Claims are reviewed by our moderation team and we may reject claims we can't verify.

Disputed claims

If someone challenges your claim, we'll review the evidence from both parties and decide. If we get it wrong, ask us to reconsider via the contact page. We may revoke a claim if the account breaches these terms or if the claim was made dishonestly.

8. Reports and moderation

Any user can report a listing they believe breaches these terms. Moderation behaviour:

• 1 open report — a "Pending review" notice appears on the listing.
• 3 reports from 3 different users — the listing is automatically hidden from the map pending moderator review.

We aim to review reports promptly but cannot guarantee a specific response time. We may remove content we reasonably believe breaches these terms, without prior notice in serious cases. If you believe a decision about your content is wrong, contact us.

9. Things you must not do

You must not:

• Submit false, misleading, or defamatory content about any box, owner, or person.
• Impersonate an owner or claim a listing you do not operate.
• Harass, target, or intimidate any individual.
• Upload content infringing copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property.
• Use scrapers, crawlers, scripts or any other automated means to collect listings from this site, or copy the catalogue in bulk by any means — including by hand.
• Work around the limits on how much you can request, or create accounts in order to get more of it.
• Use the locations on this site to approach, survey, target or interfere with any property, or to build a list of premises for any purpose. You may use them to visit a box as a customer.
• Reverse-engineer or otherwise interfere with the platform.
• Manipulate vote scores or report counts.
• Use the platform for any unlawful purpose.

Breaches may result in content removal, account suspension, or both.

These boxes mostly sit at people's homes, which is why the two rules above about collecting data and using locations are here rather than buried in a policy. If you want our data for research or a project, ask us — the address is at the foot of every page. We would rather say yes to a request than find out afterwards.

10. Our content and intellectual property

The HonestyBox.scot and HonestyBox.uk brands, design, written content, and platform code are owned by One Eye Open LLC. You may not copy, reproduce, or use them without permission, except as permitted by law.

11. Map data and attribution

Map tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database Licence (ODbL).

Listing data you contribute — location, name, factual details — is made available under the ODbL unless you indicate otherwise. The dataset of listing information may be used, shared, and built upon by others, provided they give appropriate credit and keep any derivative database open.

If you don't want your contributions available under an open data licence, please don't contribute. Photos are not subject to the ODbL — the photo licence in section 4 applies.

12. Disclaimers

HonestyBox.uk is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. In particular, we do not warrant that:

• Any listing is accurate, complete, or current.
• Any box will be open, stocked, or operating when you visit.
• Any box is operated safely or in compliance with food safety or other regulations.
• The platform will be available at all times or free from errors.

These disclaimers do not affect any rights you have as a consumer under UK law.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, One Eye Open LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss arising from your use of HonestyBox.uk, including loss of data, wasted travel, or any transaction with an operator.

Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the platform will not exceed £50 (fifty pounds sterling).

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

14. Your rights as a UK consumer

If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom, you have statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other legislation that these terms do not affect.

15. Ending your relationship with us

You can stop using HonestyBox.uk at any time. Delete your account from /account — deletion is immediate. Listing data contributed under the ODbL may remain in the database after account deletion (reattributed to "The HonestyBox Community"); see the Privacy Policy for the full picture. Photos are removed on request.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, with or without notice depending on severity.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the "Last updated" date above moves when we do. For changes that materially affect your rights, we will email registered users with reasonable notice before the change takes effect. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.

17. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. Disputes are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts. If you are a UK consumer, you retain the benefit of any mandatory protections provided by UK consumer law regardless of this clause.
